The 11th annual Steriline Racing / Australian Racecourse Managers Association (ARMA) scholarship winner was announced at the conclusion of the ARMA annual conference hosted by the Perth Racing Club.
Managing Director of Steriline Racing, John Fargher, was part of the judging panel for the scholarship and commented,
“The judges were impressed by Tony’s extremely strong application, with a focus on team development and staff engagement, he is worthy ambassador and will contribute to knowledge transfer both to participating host race clubs, and back into the Australian Racing industry.”
Tony Salisbury, who was unable to attend the Australian Racecourse Managers Association Conference this year was congratulated on his success via telephone during the conference. When advised of his success, Tony commented,
“This promises to be a fantastic opportunity and I am so looking forward to attending these venues. I am very appreciative for this once in a lifetime opportunity and excited to represent the Moonee Valley Racing Club, Steriline Racing and ARMA.”
Tony has applied for the scholarship in previous years and was successful this year due to his continued career development and dedication to the industry. In his application Tony identified that he wanted to further develop and enhance his leadership and people management skills; broaden his knowledge of best practice turf management, and extend his network and contacts. He has also recently requested with Senior Management at Moonee Valley Racing Club to join a mentor program for business management administration.
With generations of family history in the horse racing industry, Tony started as an apprentice at Moonee Valley Racecourse 24 years ago working under Ian Trevethan. Since that time he has continued to develop his career completing certificates in Workplace Leadership and Project Management. When asked of Tony’s contribution at Moonee Valley Racing Club, CEO, Michael Browell said:
“Tony has a thirst for knowledge and innovation and is a sponge for any information related to Turf Management, a topic which he is extremely passionate about.”
The Scholarship is for the study of all aspects of racecourse management operations at the Conghua Racecourse, the Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Singapore Turf Club for a period of approximately two weeks.
Established in 2008 by Steriline Racing in conjunction with the Hong Kong Jockey Club, Singapore Turf Club, and ARMA, the objective of this unique overseas scholarship is to enhance the development of the racecourse management profession in Australia.
